A Licensed Midwife (LM) is a trained and licensed healthcare provider who offers comprehensive maternity care to low-risk clients throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. LMs provide personalized, evidence-based care with a focus on informed choice, physiological birth, and family-centered support. They are licensed by the California Medical Board and are authorized to attend births in homes or birth centers, offer prenatal and postpartum care, perform newborn exams, and consult or refer to medical providers when needed. California LMs are committed to safe, respectful, and empowering care that honors the body's natural wisdom and each family’s unique needs.
